Fewer transit disruptions for Singapore commuters
Not a utility: 45 stations across three rail lines, where an MV cable fault is a commuter delay.

The entire MV cable network covered, with the most probable failure spot visualised along the cable
A six-month pilot became a long-term contract across all three lines
Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance replacing periodic inspection
About SBS Transit
SBS Transit is a major public transport operator in Singapore. Its North East Line and the Sengkang and Punggol Light Rail Transit systems cover 20 km, 10.7 km and 10.3 km respectively, serving 45 stations in total. Many thousands of commuters rely on the trains every day.
The challenge
SBS Transit wanted to improve the reliability and integrity of the medium-voltage distribution network behind the North East Line and the Sengkang–Punggol LRT. With that many daily passengers, guarding against service disruption caused by cable failure is paramount — a cable fault here is not a supply problem, it is a delayed commuter.
Our contribution
A complete monitoring solution for the 22 kV power distribution network across SBS Transit’s rail system, using the latest generation of the platform. The sensor-based system pinpoints faults and weak spots in cables quickly and accurately, so failures are resolved faster and potential problems are identified before they lead to one.
That reduces both the number and the duration of cable-related service disruptions on the monitored lines. SBS Transit also uses the system to improve its condition monitoring and predictive maintenance processes.
The benefits
The system was first installed for a six-month pilot. Analysis of the trial showed it matched SBS Transit’s needs: coverage of the entire MV cable network, with the most probable failure spot visualised along the cable.
The pilot’s success led to a long-term contract covering installation on all three lines, with annual monitoring services across the power distribution network.
